Shereen Zarroug
Background & Education
Shereen Zarroug was born & raised in Dubai to Sudanese parents, and lived in the UAE for over 30 years. A mom of 3 children, she graduated from The American University in Dubai with a Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising, Marketing & Graphic Design. When she became pregnant with her 3rd child, her research and preparation for that pregnancy, lead her to discover the role of a ‘doula’ and the practice of ‘Hypnobirthing’, as she was trying to achieve a vaginal birth after 2 cesareans (VBA2C). That experience opened up many doors for her within the pregnancy and birth field that she soon realized it was time to quit her full time (and well paying!) job in marketing, to follow her true calling.
In 2014, Shereen trained with Childbirth International (CBI) to become a certified Birth Doula, in order to support pregnant women throughout their motherhood journey. In 2015, she furthered her education, in attaining certification as a Childbirth Educator, specializing in ‘Hypnobirthing’ with KG Hypnobirthing & The Wise Hippo Birthing programme, as she wanted to enforce the belief of achieving ‘Positive Birth experiences’ amongst the birthing community in the UAE. In 2018 she trained and certified with the world recognized Doula & Childbirth training organizations, DONA (Doulas of North America) & LAMAZE International, and also certified as a Lactation Counsellor, so she could better support the new mothers and families she worked with. Since then, Shereen has played a very active role on Social media and events, showcasing and discussing several birthing topics to help educate and empower women to make well informed choices for their births.
My Vision

What would I love to see?
I would love for the UAE to be the leading country in the world with the highest rates of positive birth & parenting experiences as a result of increased and on going support, education and respected choices in childbirth. I want to be a part of that, and perhaps lead that change!
My philosophy:
"Happy births = Happy mothers = Happy babies = Happy mothers!"
I want to be there for women, to hold their hand in times of distress, and ease the journey if it ever gets too tough.
Through the collective, I believe that together, we can make a difference… it’s really about rebuilding a village for every mother, especially for expats living in the UAE.
We want to let mothers know, that is ok to cry, there is no shaming in motherhood. And that sometimes it is not about doing what is right or wrong, but always about doing what you
know and trust is best for you and your child.

Where is my village?
Many of us are living far away from our family and friends, that we probably left back home or elsewhere in the world. How then, can we lend on & support one another in such huge impactful phases of our lives such as birth and parenting?
Welcome 'Pregnancy' & 'Mom & baby' circles!
Monthly, Belly Baby Mom hosts cozy (free) get-togethers for expectant mamas and the same for new moms and their babies. The aim is to meet, connect, share stories and experiences with one another so that every mom feels she's not in this alone!
I've also set up 2 virtual villages on Facebook & whats app for the same reason, where we can all come together and
support one another.

Prenatal Education
If you ask me about my true passion, I would have to say
'education' it is. Speaking to women & couples through prenatal sessions, Hypnobirthing classes, events & my podcast, bring me and them so much value. When I see or hear of a couple who have applied to their birth what I had relayed to them, it makes my heart sing and I know I'm in the right place, at the right time!
With so much inaccurate information around, I take it upon my to offer women the latest evidence-based information out there, following international guidelines, so that they can make the right decisions for them and their babies.
Speaking Opportunities
I enjoy spreading awareness on important topics such as doula support, Hypnobirthing, misconceptions & myths regarding birth as well as pregnancy and birth expectations, and have had the privilege to speak on a few radio shows as well as be invited to speak at the 'Arab Health 2020 - Midwifery Conference' and other events, which was a true honor to do so.
